Dr. Samson CHAN, CSDSM, CSMSM. PhD (University of Hull)

A career CSD officer with 32+ years of services covering a wide range of correctional duties. Retired in 2006 as Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Rehabilitation Division. Took the University of Hull's criminology programme after retirement and was awarded PhD in Criminology in 2013. Key research interests in the development of criminal justice policies in Hong Kong whilst under the British administration and the historical penology of Hong Kong.

Had long history of teaching in the field of penology and criminal justice for various Higher Education Institutions before retirement from government services and in 2008 took up the duties as Senior Programme Director and later took up duties as Associate Head of the College of Humanities and Law, SPACE, University of Hong Kong till 2015. Main duties covering programme management and development on sub-degree, top-up degree and postgraduate full-time or part-time programmes as well as commissioned programmes for government departments and NGOs in the field of penology, Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement.

Involved with the teaching of the undergraduate criminology modules for the Sociology Department, HKU since 2012 and the Master of Social Sciences (Criminology) programme of HKU since 2013.
